This course is designed for someone who is new to the sport of paramotors and are wanting to fulfill their dream of flying. Our goal is to get you the skills needed to safely fly these aircrafts. While our program is intensive, we have found it to be most effective for getting people safely in the air and on their own flying journey.
The course is scheduled in 14 day time blocks. Most are able to acquire the skills needed in 9-11 days but weather is unlikely to give us 14 days in a row of good flying conditions. Training takes place in two separate time blocks. First is our morning session usually around 6am-11am. We then have our afternoon session from 4pm-sunset.
The first few days we focus on the ground handling skills. While flying is rather easy, it’s the control on the ground that makes for safe and efficient takeoffs and landings. Once someone is showing consistency in their ground skills, we then implement the motor for taxi practice. This is where we start getting use to throttle control and practicing all the skills needed, up to actually going full throttle and taking off. In preparation for your first solo, you will have the opportunity to get in the articulating simulator. Here is where we rehearse your first flight. Everything from liftoff to landing.
First solo flight occurs only when both student and instructor are feeling ready. The first solo is where it all comes together. The unknown now becomes the known. It’s all about repetition the first handful of flights and dialing in takeoffs and landings. From there, we progress through in-flight skills such as oscillation and surge control as well as using the speed system on the glider.
Throughout your flights, you will have your instructor over radio providing the necessary instruction. As you progress in your flights, you will start to lead the flights all while having your instructor over radio as needed. The goal is to have students show consistency in their takeoffs and landings while safely leading the entire flight.
Throughout training, we implement about 8 hours of ground school in our pilots’ lounge at the Sanford airport. We cover a topic or two primarily in our morning sessions. We will thouroughly go over weather and how we decide on when to fly. We cover FAR 103 and how to keep ourselves legal while flying. Understanding airspace can seem daunting at first. We will help break it down in a way that makes sense and is applicable to us ultralights. These are just a few topics of discussion.
The total cost of the course is $3000. This includes the use of the school’s motor and gliders. We take reservations on a first come, first serve basis.
